DGH Disseminates Research Findings on Access to Essential Sexual and Reproductive Health Commodities

28 September 2026 | Kampala, Uganda

Dumaic Global Health (DGH), in collaboration with the Coalition to Stop Maternal Mortality due to Unsafe Abortion (CSMMUA), convened stakeholders in Kampala for a half day meeting that brought together Ministry of Health representatives, civil society organizations, community health advocates and health professionals to disseminate findings from two studies conducted under the Litigating Reproductive Justice in Africa (LIRA) initiative.

The studies examined the inclusion of World Health Organization (WHO)-recommended medicines for safe abortion in national essential medicines lists across 10 LIRA countries, as well as the availability, affordability and accessibility of essential sexual and reproductive health commodities in health facilities in Uganda.

Discussions highlighted persistent barriers, including gaps in provider training, stigma, service costs and commodity availability. Participants called for stronger collaboration between the Ministry of Health and civil society, improved provider capacity, strengthened pharmacovigilance and wider dissemination of national guidelines.

Through this dissemination meeting, DGH and its partners reaffirmed the importance of research, collaboration and policy engagement in strengthening health systems and improving access to essential sexual and reproductive health commodities in Uganda and across the region.
